BAMBOOZLE LINEUP EXPANDS
ASBURY PARK, N.J., Jan. 18, 2011 -- More than 60 bands and performers have been officially added to the lineup for the Bamboozle music festival in May on the Asbury Park oceanfront.
Jimmy Eat World, The All American Rejects, Motion City Soundtrack, The Receiving End of Sirens, Anti-Flag, Bayside, The Promise Ring, Boy Sets Fire, The Bouncing Souls, Boys Like Girls, Catch 22, We Came As Romans, Mike Posner, Miss May I, DJ Pauly D, Never Shout Never and The Maine are among those who will perform at the three-day event.
Blink-182, Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi, Incubus, Skrillex and Mac Miller were previously announced as headliners.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
It's a sort of homecoming for Incubus bassist Ben Kenney, a Brielle native and former employee of The Stone Pony. Skrillex is Sonny Moore, who last appeared in Asbury Park at the Pony when he was the singer in the band From First To Last. Blink-182 previously played at Convention Hall with Silverchair and Fenix TX in November 1999.
John D'Esposito of Live Nation, an international concert and entertainment producer, made the official announcement of the Bamboozle's return to Asbury Park.
"Dreams are powerful, see what others can't and believe what others don't," tweeted D'Esposito on Nov. 7.
"We have some amazing secrets soon to be revealed and we couldn't be prouder of the reaction and support we received from so many artists and fans over the past year as we put together what is going to be an amazing weekend in music history for the City of Asbury Park and the Bamboozle Festival," D'Esposito said.
A revival of the Skate & Surf Festival, a pre-Bamboozle Asbury Park fixture, will apparently be part of the Bamboozle's 10th anniversary.
"What means the most to me is recreating Skate and Surf to perfection, all three days, in the hall," D'Esposito tweeted last month, referring to Convention Hall on the city's boardwalk. "Lineup is solid, now trying to find [the] original [main stage] backdrop."
The event will take place at various venues along the oceanfront, some of which already exist and other temporary stages which will be constructed specifically for the festival. The original Bamboozle took place at The Stone Pony in 2003. In 2006, it moved to the shadows of Giants Stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands.
D'Esposito said a major effort will be undertaken to encourage festivalgoers to use mass transit.
"Not only is this better for the environment since we are so close to the beach, but as a favor to me, please use mass transit so we don't disturb the wonderful people residing in Asbury Park," the Colts Neck resident said. "We want to keep this as safe and subtle as possible. We are guests in their town for a weekend and the Bamboozle has promised the community that the city will look as beautiful, if not better, when we leave."
